The Feet, Fitted with Shoes; Ephesians 6:15

Walk Like You’re Saved

Church, today we continue with the armor of God, and we are focusing on the shoes of the gospel of peace. Let me begin with an image. Imagine a soldier going to war barefoot. The ground is rough, filled with sharp stones, traps, and thorns. Every step he takes cuts his feet. He cannot run, he cannot stand firm, and eventually, he will stumble and become an easy target for the enemy. That is exactly what happens to a Christian without the gospel shoes. If we are not rooted and standing firm in the true gospel, when temptations come, when false teaching comes, when trials come—we will stumble and fall.

The Need

And church, let’s be honest—this is happening today. The gospel is being changed in many places. People no longer want to hear the truth of God’s Word. They want motivational speeches. They want entertainment. They want messages that make them feel good but have no power to save from sin. This is how the devil attacks the gospel. He doesn’t always come with open persecution. Sometimes he simply changes the message—dilutes it—so it looks like the gospel, but it’s no longer the power of God to salvation. That’s why Paul says in Ephesians 6:15, “Stand firm, with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”So how do we stand firm in the gospel? Let’s look at three things.

1. Be United with God Through Christ

The first step is this: you must belong to Christ. You cannot stand on the gospel if you are not saved. The gospel is this: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again. And whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16).The shoes of peace begin with peace with God. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”So before you can stand firm, you must ask yourself: Have I truly believed in Jesus? Am I united with Him? Do I have peace with God through Christ?

2. Know the Scriptures to Defend the Gospel

The second way we stand firm is by knowing the Word of God.1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”But here’s the problem: you cannot defend what you do not know.Today, many Christians are deceived in the church because they don’t know the Scriptures. The prosperity gospel has gained fame—teaching that by giving money you’ll be blessed. Some mix the gospel with psychology. Others believe they can earn salvation through rituals or good works. But salvation is not by works. It is not by money. It is not by religion. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.Ask yourself:

  • How much time do I spend in the Word of God?
  • Since I joined my church, have I grown spiritually—or am I still the same?
  • Do I know the gospel well enough to defend it?

If you don’t know the Word, you won’t stand firm.

3. Walk Like a Saved Person

Lastly, the shoes are not just for standing—they are also for walking. You cannot claim to stand in the gospel and live in sin. It is impossible to walk as a saved person while continuing in an ungodly lifestyle. The true gospel transforms us. When we are saved, the Holy Spirit works in us and produces fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23).So, let me ask: Does my life reflect the gospel I claim to believe? Am I walking as a saved person at home, in secret, and even when no one is watching?

Conclusion

Church, the shoes of the gospel of peace give us stability, readiness, and strength to walk in righteousness. But we must:

  1. Be united with God through faith in Christ.
  2. Know the Scriptures so we can defend the gospel.
  3. Walk daily as people who are truly saved.

So I challenge you today:

  • Are your feet firmly planted in the true gospel?
  • Do you know God’s Word well enough to stand against false teaching?
  • Are you walking daily in the power of the gospel?

The true gospel has the power to save, the power to transform, and the power to keep us standing firm. Put on your gospel shoes, stand strong, and be ready to fight the good fight of faith.Amen.
